Spotlight on COMO Cocoa Island
Like many travellers, visiting the Maldives was always high on my bucket-list, the white sand, the bluest of blue water. Amazing diving, barefoot luxury and so much more and in 2016 I was elated to visit COMO Cocoa Island (and COMO Maalifushi). At COMO Cocoa Island all 33 villas are overwater, allowing you to slip into the warm clear waters and experience a dream like seascape full to the brim of tropical vibrant sea-life.
I have dreamt of returning many times since and finally post pandemic I was able to return in 2022. Since this time COMO Cocoa Island has undergone a full refurbishment. I was joined by my sister and we were incredibly lucky to stay in the gorgeous two bedrooms sunrise pool villa, with our own fantastic butler Faisal taking care of us. The villa featured:
Separate wings, each featuring an en suite bedroom and a private terrace directly above the ocean.
Living and dining areas, with balconies on either side that step directly off the deck into the turquoise lagoon.
A secluded deck, with a new private pool that almost touches the edge of the ocean
At 300sq m this villa is perfect for friends or a family traveling together, especially early risers from Australia who can have a sleep in (thanks to the 5 hour time difference) and still watch the sun come up.
Our COMO Cocoa Island highlights:
COMO Shambhala Massages listening to the waves gently breaking on the shore, This signature treatment uses blended massage oils to calm the mind and rejuvenate the body. Ideal to improve general wellbeing as it rebalances both body and mind.
Morning walks on the exposed sandbank watching out for baby sharks and rays
Yoga in the open-air pavilion
Snorkelling on the two house reefs and by boat a little further away
Hydrotherapy pool sessions
Sunset drinks with a cotton candy sunset every night
A special birthday dinner on the beach by candlelight
Outdoor showers under the stars each night
COMO Cocoa Island will forever have a special place in my heart and is just a 40-minute speedboat transfer from the international airport on Malé (the main island). You can walk straight out of the airport and onto the boat and be on your way, minutes after arrival.
Here Asian-based therapies, physical fitness classes and a new Pilates studio, as well as a fitness centre and airy yoga studio are all on offer, take part in practice mindful exercises or join the daily schedule of activities, including yoga, Pilates and more (example here). This year also saw the first kiteboarding retreat which will be returning in 2023 for an extended period. Dates will be shared as they become available.
